Lauren is the Assistant Professor of Fine Art at Cecil College and we're thrilled to feature her beautiful Ceramics Work of which "Simplicity of form allows for subtleties to be explored." As a 'Gallery Artist' with The Palette & The Page, Lauren's work will be for sale on display throughout the month of February.

‘The Love Letter Project, Part 4’

An original production blending dance, music and theater will be performed by Cecil College’s Performing Arts Program faculty when The CoLABorative presents “The Love Letter Project, Part 4.”
Tickets for “The Love Letter Project,” which are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, can be reserved in advance by calling 410-392-3366.
Submissions for “The Love Letter Project” are solicited annually to develop a new production presented each Valentine’s Day weekend. Materials received are archived into a living library as a resource for future productions.
“This year, we drew some of our inspiration from pre-existing sources which were interpreted in new ways.” said Janaea Rose Lyn, performing arts coordinator at Cecil College. “An example of this is ‘Ideal Grace’ by guest choreographer Vincent Thomas. Danced by myself and Sunshine Webster-Latshaw, this piece integrates dance, improvised music by jazz guitar instructor James Meyer, and a taped interpretation of the famous poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning.”
An associate professor of dance at Towson University, Thomas has danced with numerous companies, including Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, and is the founder of VTDance. His choreography has been presented at various national and international venues, and he was selected as one of only 11 choreographers for the 2005 Omi International Dance Collective. He is a recipient of many regional honors, including several Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Awards, a 2008 Kennedy Center Local Dance Commission Project Award, and two 2006 Metro DC Dance Awards for Emerging Choreographer and Outstanding New Work.
“The Love Letter Project” will consist of several other pieces. “When My Eyes Are Closed” is an original work by guitarist J. Andrew Dickenson, also performed with Meyer. Dickenson will additionally present two guitar and vocal duets by G.F. Handel and J. Offenbach with soprano Yeonjune-Suh. Actress Heather Morrissey will portray a daughter who returns home to confront her dying father in excerpts from “Julius and Portia Jones,” by Brian Christopher Williams. As a continuing structural theme, poems, letters and texts link the individual pieces into a cohesive production.

In conjunction with this year’s production of “The Love Letter Project”, “Love Made Visible” is on display in the Elkton Station Gallery until March 4. The exhibit features the work of Amanda Kamen, Patti Paulus, Roger Moreland and an assistant professor of math at Cecil College, Joseph Kupresanin. Located adjacent to the Performing Arts Hall in the lobby of Elkton Station, admission to the gallery is free.

FREDERICK DOUGLASS: A LIVING HISTORY

Celebrate Black History Month and join the CCPL as Bill Gimmette, a living history interpreter, storyteller and actor, portrays Frederick Douglass. A native son of Maryland, Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot County and escaped to the North, becoming one of the great leaders of America's abolitionist movement and influencing no less than Abraham Lincoln. History comes alive at the library! Commissioner Tari Moore will be making introductory remarks. This program is sponsored by the Maryland Humanities Council.
